Dear Parents

Happy Easter!  As I told the children in collective worship on Tuesday, Easter is only just beginning and will last for 50 days until Pentecost on June 9th, so we can justify continuing to celebrate (and of course to enjoy our chocolate eggs!).  Next week on Thursday, we will have a whole school Mass to celebrate Eastertide, led by Year 1.  Sadly we don’t yet have room in the hall for parents to join us at our whole school Mass - one day we hope to have a hall which can accommodate the whole school and some guests comfortably!  For now, we hope you will be with us in spirit as we celebrate this most holy time in the church’s year.

Over the school holiday, we have had some improvements made in our school facilities, including a new Music Room.  This room replaces the former “studio” – now a classroom – and will be used for class music lessons later this term and from September.  The room houses a piano and a whole host of instruments for the children to play, as well as a new Interactive Whiteboard to access our Charanga music scheme resources.  We are very pleased to have such a light and spacious room to dedicate to music and we will also be able to hire the room out to iRock and Surrey Arts for individual and group music lessons.  Please do come in and have a look at the room when you are next in school!

As you know, Mrs Sedour, our Year 5 teacher, has finished today to start her maternity leave.  We will keep her in our prayers and in our thoughts and we hope she will soon visit us with Baby Sedour!  Mrs Rosie Langmore, an experienced Year 5 teacher, will shortly join us as a member of staff, initially to support Sapphire Class until the end of the year.  I know you will give her a warm welcome to our school community.

All best wishes for the exciting term ahead,

Catherine Burnham

Top of the Form
Our Year 6 Quiz Team lost on a tie-break question to St James, Weybridge, in a nail biting second round match on the final day of last term.  Despite their disappointment, they were great ambassadors for our school.  Well done to Aidan, Lara, Mackenzie and Nathan.

Creative Arts Week - Week commencing 20 May
During Creative Arts week children will be looking at ‘The Art of Recycling’ and we would therefore be very grateful if every child could please bring in a plastic bag (preferably one of the thinner ones) and any spare ribbon you may have at home.  Please could children bring these into the office.  Many thanks.

The Help Uganda Trust is looking for laptop computers or mobile phones that can be given to the young people of St Michael's to assist them with their studies. If you have any in good condition that you would like to donate please leave them in the St Erconwald's Sacristy or take to the Walton Parish Office. They will be taken to Uganda in the first week of May.  Thank you.
You can find out more about the Help Uganda Trust here.

Salesian School - Tesco Bags of Help Grant Scheme
With an increasing number of students choosing the healthly option of cycling, Salesian School is looking to provide further safe and secure cycle storage.  In addition to this, they have been working on improving access to the school for wheelchair users and plan to install access ramps to the science classrooms.
They have been successful in earning a place on the Tesco Bags of Help Grant Scheme, whereby shoppers can vote for the project throughout May and June. Voting can be done in Tesco stores in Addlestone, Chertsey, East Molesey, Hersham, Hurst Park, Walton-on-Thames and Weybridge.  They would be very grateful for your support.  Thank you.
