11th June 2021

Dear Parents,

Y6 Residential:

We are delighted that the Y6 Residential to Henley Fort has been able to go ahead.  Mrs Burnham has been out of school with the Y6 team this week.  Photos from the Y6 trip can be found on the website here.

Pastoral Letter:

Bishop Richard’s Pastoral Letter for last Sunday (the Feast of Corpus Christi) contained an important message for all of us – there is an excerpt below and the letter can be read in full on the diocesan website here: https://www.abdiocese.org.uk/pastoral-letters/pastoral-letter-for-the-6th-june-2021?e8c51918_page=2

This great Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ - Corpus Christi - calls us to reflect on the Lord’s gift of Himself in the Eucharist.  This celebration is “the heart and summit of the Church’s life.”[1]   It is the greatest prayer, the highest action possible, for “Christ Himself, acting through the ministry of the priests, offered the Eucharistic sacrifice.”[2]  The Lord is truly present, sacramentally, and we are called to share in the gift of His Body and Blood.  Through our sharing in Him, so we become ever closer to Him and to each other in the life and mission to which He has called us.  The prayer of the Eucharist goes beyond our understanding and its impact on the life of the world will be greater than we can ever comprehend.

On this Corpus Christi Day, therefore, I offer a deliberate invitation to return to the public celebration of Mass.  Come once more to be with your sisters and brothers, gathered around the altar to meet with the Crucified and Risen Lord, truly present in the gift of the Sacrament.

Bishop Richard will be visiting our school and blessing our new school hall in the Autumn Term – more details to follow!

First Holy Communion:

Congratulations to the first of our Y3 children who have made their First Holy Communion this month!  During June and July, most of our Y3 children will receive this great sacrament for the first time.  Please remember them and their families in your prayers.  We will once again be creating a display of our First Holy Communion children in school, so please do share a photo of your child’s special communion day with the school office.  Thank you!

Parish News:

Parishioners at St Erconwald’s will be aware that Bishop Richard has announced Father Bill’s successor this month  – Fr Ruslan will become parish priest of St Erconwald’s when Fr Bill retires this summer and we look forward to welcoming Fr Ruslan into our school community sometime in the Autumn Term.  Fr Bill has been a wonderful friend to our school and we are delighted that in his capacity as Governor, he will continue to work with us for some years to come. We are grateful for all his care and support for our children, our families and our staff team.

School Lunches:

Parents are reminded that school dinners should be ordered on a week by week basis (not daily) and paid in advance please.  The menu for this half-term can be found here.

Year 3 mass - A huge well done to our Year 3 children on their whole school Mass today.  They really impressed us helping Fr Bill to celebrate Mass. Well done Year 3!

Sapphire Class mission week - This week, Sapphire Class have had their Mission Week.  They had their assembly this morning and did really. Well done Sapphire Class!

Wishing all of you a lovely weekend.
All best wishes

Catherine Burnham

Notes

School Dinners - Please book your child's hot dinners on Scopay at least 1 week in advance. If you do forget to book your child in for lunch any day - please ring the school office before 9 am so we can let the kitchen know in time.

NSPCC - In view of recent national media reports we would like to remind you of the excellent 'Pants' resources that are available on the NSPCC website. https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/support-for-parents/pants-underwear-rule/

Morning drop-off  - Please remember that the drop off time in the morning is from 8:40am. There are a lot of children being dropped at 8:30 and congregating around the entrance gates and consequently mixing bubbles. We appreciate your support with this.

Coffee and conversation - There will be a coffee and conversation zoom on Friday at 8.15 am. The previous minutes can be found here. If you have any questions, please send them to the office beforehand.

Reception donations - Please send boxes of tissues in with your children or drop them into the school office if possible. We are running very low! Thank you
