Dear Parents

Teaching and Learning

This week has been a very positive one in school, despite the rather grey weather!  End of year assessments are now completed for our children, including Y2 and Y6 completing (previous year) SATS papers, Y1 completing the Phonics Check and Y4 piloting the new Times Tables Check.  We are delighted with the results – for any year, let alone for a year of disrupted education – and we are looking forward to sharing those with parents (once the results are moderated) in the end of year reports on 16th July!  The results are testament to the children’s resilience in a time of such great change and of course also reflect the great partnership between parents and school to enable the children to continue their learning during the pandemic!  A pat on the back all round – well done!

Florence Nightingale

Well done to Year 2 this week who have rounded off their learning about Florence Nightingale with a themed day, including fantastic costumes and an inspiring (remote) performance to parents.  It was great to have the use of our new school hall for their wonderful performance and Year 1 children were able to be the audience (socially distanced from Y2 in their own Y1 bubble!) and begin their own learning about Florrie, in readiness for moving on to Y2 quite soon!  Well done Y2 for setting the bar very high with your super singing and loud clear voices.  Photos from the day can be found here.

Yellow Class Mission Week

A huge well done also to Yellow Class who have had their Mission Week this week – their Act of Service has been to improve our school environment and they have been litter-picking and emptying recycling bins around the school!  Their class assembly this morning featured lovely singing of “If I were a butterfly” and more lovely loud voices in our new school hall!  Well done!

First Holy Communion

Congratulations to some of our Year 3 and Year 4 children who have already made their First Holy Communion so far this year; there are more to come in the weekends ahead and we will keep all of you in our prayers!  Please send a photo into school once your child has made their FHC – we are keen to refresh our First Communion display for next year, to celebrate those who have joined “the table of the Lord” and to give Year 2 an idea about what may lie ahead for them too!

Year 3 have had in Adoration in the school Chapel today, spending some time in quiet prayer and reflection before the Blessed Sacrament.  Y3, Y4 and Y5 have all participated in Eucharistic Adoration during June and we are so impressed with their reflection and prayerfulness.

Parent Governor Nominations

Please give some consideration to supporting our school in the ongoing process to select a new Parent Governor.  Meetings are half-termly from 7:50am and involvement in the life of the school is warmly encouraged. Do speak to me or to Tom Bray or Helen Agnew (current parents who are governors) or to Sarah Rice (Chair of Governors) if you would like to find out more.

Parent Association

Thank you for your participation in the Mufti Day and for all the Colour Raffle donations which have been flooding into school!  We are definitely filled with rainbow colours this weekend!  Keep an eye out for the completed hampers and do support the PA by buying raffle tickets this half-term!  Thank you!

More thank yous

Thank you to:

  • Young People from Year 9 at St George’s, Weybridge who contributed their labour towards our revamp of the Environmental Area and the Prayer Garden over the last two weeks!  They also paired with Year 5 to do some planting in the beds by the Prayer Garden.  We are very grateful for their support and hope they enjoyed their Outreach Mission!
  • Year 6 parents who have chosen to contribute their school account balance towards the Hall Fund.  We are really appreciative of your kindness – thank you!  Year 6 were the first to “play” on the new hall gym equipment and will, we hope, also be able to use the hall for their Leavers Production to a live audience on 19th July (Boris permitting!)
  • A family who have donated towards the landscaping project at the front of the school (Replacing the bed which was removed during the building project) – see below also!

Calling all Landscape Gardeners!

We would be keen to harness the skills and expertise of any school families who might be able to help with some small gardening / landscaping projects in the coming weeks:

  • The bed mentioned above at the front of school – this needs the sleepers repositioning and the plants (which still seem to be healthy!) replacing in their original position
  • There is still some work to complete with the newly dug pond in the Environmental Area – we are hoping to line the pond and then position slabs around the edge of the pond to facilitate pond-dipping for the children

If you would be able to help out with either of these small projects, please get in touch with the school office (or speak to Mrs Burnham or Mr Flower).  Thank you!

Next Week

Next week will be a busy week in school, with several exciting events.  Year 5 will be spending the day at Wintershall on Monday, experiencing the Parables of Jesus as told by the Wintershall players.  Year 6 have their Leavers Retreat Day in school, where they will participate in a carousel of reflective activities on the theme of “Vocation – A Definite Purpose.”  We are pleased to welcome one of the RE teachers from Salesian to join them on that day.

Whole School Mass for the Feast of St Peter and St Paul will be led by Fr Bill with readings from our Reception Children.  Watch out for the Zoom link for that –  parents and grandparents are warmly welcomed to join our school community for the penultimate whole school Mass of the year! It take's place on Tuesday at 2 pm.

Wishing you all the best for the coming weekend
