24 May

Congratulations to the whole school community on a very successful Creative Arts Week.  It really has been a collaboration across the whole community and we are delighted both with what has been achieved and with the experiences the children have had.

Our thanks go especially to parent helpers – we have been blessed with so many volunteers this week, who have willingly rolled up their sleeves and participated in papier mache, sewing, mural painting and many more exciting activities which require additional pairs of hands!  Volunteers enable us to offer so much more to the children and we are delighted to have had your help!

We have benefitted this week from a number of wonderful collaborations within the local community.  On Wednesday evening, the school choir joined with Walton Voices, an adult choir, for a stunning concert which gave the children the opportunity to be part of an adult ensemble.  The effect was very moving and thoroughly enjoyed by those who attended.  Three Rivers Academy (just across the back field) has offered their art specialists to work with our Year 6 children on murals for the local community (on Coronation Recreation Ground) and their music specialists to enable the children to use the recording studio “making beats”.

From further afield, we have been delighted to welcome Manuela Hermann - a Primary music specialist from Potsdam in Germany  - who has been working with the children on German songs, as well as giving them a taste of German cookery, language  and culture.  In these very uncertain times for relations with Europe, it has been great to have the chance to connect with a fellow teacher and notice the similarities and parallels between our cultures.  We are grateful to UK-German Connection for this opportunity and we look forward to developing our children’s international understanding further on our Celebrating Difference Day which this year will focus on different countries of the world.

Last but definitely not least, our thanks go to the whole staff team, but most especially to the wonderful Creative Arts Team (Teachers: Mrs Cala, Mrs Harvey, Support staff: Mrs Hayden and Mrs Nash) who have planned and implemented such a wonderful week for the children.  We are blessed with their creativity, enthusiasm and commitment!

Wishing all of your families a lovely half-term break and we look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 4th June.

All best wishes

HALF TERM
We break up today at 3.20pm for half term.  We return on Tuesday 4 June (Monday 3 June is an INSET day for staff only).

KS2 ATHLETICS CLUB - THURSDAYS AT 8AM
Children in Years 3 to 6 are very welcome to join our Athletics Club before school on Thursdays.  Please register for the club via your Scopay account or just email us to let us know.  We look forward to welcoming our new runners!

PARENT FORM: COFFEE AND CONVERSATION - TUESDAY 18 JUNE
If you have any questions to discuss at the Parent Forum: Coffee and Conversation meeting, please email them to the office by Wednesday 5 June.  Questions should be general rather than about individual children.
Questions from the school for parent feedback at the meeting:
1) School website - can you find everything you need to find on there?  What works well?  What could be better?
2) School uniform - 18 months on from changing to our new supplier, how is it going?

YEAR 6 PARENTS MEETING FOR FRENCH TRIP - TUESDAY 4 JUNE
A reminder of this important meeting - please can a parent for every child attend.  Thank you.

CELEBRATING DIFFERENCE DAY - FRIDAY 7 JUNE
The first Friday after half term is our Celebrating Difference Day.   Children will be taking part in a range of activities to experience different cultures, for example food, music and dance from around the world.  We would be delighted if parents would like to come into school to speak to a class about their country's culture or perhaps bring in some food for children to try.  If you would like to take part, please email the school office or speak to your class teacher.  Thank you.

ECO KIDS TEXTILE RECYCLING
The Eco Kids Textile Recycling bags arrived and your child/children will be bringing them home today.
A reminder that this project raises funds for Cardinal Newman. We will receive up to £500/tonne or £0.50/kg which will give a boost to our fundraising efforts.
Not only is this an opportunity to raise much-needed cash to fund facilities and equipment for the school but it is an opportunity for you to sort through your wardrobe and put any unwanted clothes etc in the eco bags provided. There are more bags available from the office or any white plastic bags  will also be accepted.  Please check on the link below for information about what can and cannot be recycled.
Please ensure you put the name of the school on each bag. We have arranged for Eco Kids to collect from our school premises on:
Day: 11 June 2019 Time: 1pm
The PA would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting the school with this eco-friendly project.

GOLDEN BOOT CHALLENGE
Our Golden Boot Challenge gets under way after half term - children will be asked how they came to school on Fridays 7, 14, 21 and 28 June.  We are looking for families to travel to school in a "green" way - walking, scooting, cycling, parking + striding or by public transport.

NO NUTS IN SCHOOL
A reminder that the school has a no nuts policy, so please remember not to put any nuts or products containing nuts in packed lunches or snacks.  Thank you.
