7 June

Dear Parents

Thank you so much for your wonderful contributions to celebrating the diversity of our community today!  On our first Celebrating Difference Day, we have focussed on different cultures, foods, languages and backgrounds. It has been very inspiring to see how many parents have got involved:  sharing their knowledge of countries and cultures; cooking delicious international foods for tasting; modelling national dress; lending artefacts for the children to explore.  What a fascinating polyglot multicultural community we are!  Our children have had a very exciting day and have thoroughly enjoyed recognising that we are all different and that we are all special and loved by God.  We hope it will encourage them to understand each other better and to respect each other’s uniqueness.

It has been suggested that next year we might focus our Celebrating Difference Day on different abilities, perhaps with a Paralympic slant.  We would welcome any further ideas about how we might develop our children’s respect and understanding of the wonderful kaleidoscope of God’s creation!

We are proud to be an inclusive and diverse school, supporting children of all abilities as well as we can.  As you will remember, we won the Surrey Panathlon and celebrated success at the National Panathlon earlier in the year.  Last weekend, one of our Y6 pupils, Yasmine, came 2nd in her first formal Wheelchair Race (U20’s Elite Ladies category!) in London - see below.  We are very proud of her and wish her every success in her future races.  Cardinal Newman already has an Olympian alumnus (Tim Brabants, Gold medallist in Canoeing at Beijing in 2008) but we’re still awaiting our first Paralympian… No pressure Yasmine!

In more exciting news, we are delighted to announce the safe delivery of our two “Cardinal Newman” babies!

Mr and Mrs Sedour have welcomed
Sienna Hart Sedour (7lb 1oz)

Mr and Mrs Rivans have welcomed Finley Daniel John Rivans (10lb 3oz)

Mothers and babies are all well and we are looking forward to a visit from them before the end of term!

Have a wonderful weekend.

PA ECO TEXTILE RECYCLING - TUESDAY 11 JUNE
We hope you all had a good half term and took the opportunity to get rid of unwanted clothes!  A reminder that the Eco Textile Recycling collection is on 11 June at 1pm. Please only bring the clothes to school on the day as the school has no storage facilities.   Weather permitting, please put your bags in front of the hall window as before from 7.45am.  Thank you all for your support.  Cardinal Newman PA.

COFFEE AND CONVERSATION CONSULTATION - DEADLINE 14 JUNE
A reminder of our consultation with parents event on 18 June from 8.30am to 9.15am.  This is a forum for you to talk about broader issues for the school - we are especially looking for your thoughts on our new uniform supplier and the school website.  If you would like to put forward a question or view please send it to the school office by Friday 14 June.  We hope you can join us and look forward to your questions.

SCHOOL NURSE APPOINTMENTS - FRIDAY 14 JUNE
Our school nurse will be here next Friday between 9.30am and 12.30pm to speak to parents about any concerns they may have.  If you would like to make an appointment, please contact the school office.

GOLDEN BOOT CHALLENGE - JUNE 2019
The Golden Boot 2019 Challenge is now under way.  Children will be asked each Friday how they travelled to school and will be awarded points for travelling in a "green" way - walking, parking and striding, cycling, scooting or by public transport.  With warmer weather now here this is an ideal time to leave the car at home.  This is a competition between classes so your child's Golden Boot point could make all the difference!

TOPAZ CLASS - TOILET TWINNING UPDATE
Topaz Class raised an amazing £463 for the Toilet Twinning project they supported during their Mission Week.  This will pay for a toilet block for a school, 3 toilets for communities plus soap etc.  Thank you to everyone who supported them.

LENTEN COLLECTION
Our Lenten collection raised £259.01 for the Arundel & Brighton Crisis Fund.  Thank you to everyone who supported this by returning their collection boxes.

PA NEWS - SUMMER FAIR (6 JULY)

Mufti Day for Bottle & Jar Tombola will be on Thursday 4 July.  Children may wear their own clothes to school and bring in a bottle for the tombola.

Class Reps are in the process of co-ordinating the Summer Fair which will take place on Saturday 6 July between 12pm-3pm.

As there is no co-ordinator this year, we would be grateful for some volunteers to help manage/run/compere some of the central activities including club performances (ballet/Judo/Pyjama Drama/iRock) and Cardinal Newman's Got Talent.  It would be a shame if we couldn't run these as the children love to perform to show parents what they have been learning in their clubs and show off their talents to the audience.

If you would be able to help on the day, then please contact PA@cardinalnewmanschool.co.uk

Thank you.
