Dear Parents

Happy World Book Day!  Thank you for all your efforts with costumes and props today – the children all looked fantastic and we had a great time celebrating reading this week.  There are photos of the various costumes and some of the activities on our website …  There was a definite buzz around the Play in a Day Shakespeare Workshops and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed them.  Our thanks go to the PA for funding this very special opportunity for all our children.

The next big PA fundraising opportunity will be the Car Boot Sale on Sunday 3rd May.  Please make a note of it and tell all your family and friends to come along to pick up some bargains (or maybe to have a Spring Clear out!)  More details nearer the time but please save the date!

Congratulations to Orange Class who had their first ever Mission Week this week.  They went to Mass in church on Wednesday  and have been fulfilling their mission by performing a service to our community (tidying our class book corners!) – Well done Orange Class!  Their class assembly this morning was really lovely – they sang beautifully and said their words really clearly!  We look forward to Red Class Mission Week next week!

Well done too to the children for all their Lent Challenges so far.  The kitchen have noted that many of them have given up chocolate and are trying to offer a non-chocolate pudding option to make this a little easier for them!  I was very proud of the children who came to say the rosary at lunchtime today and especially proud of those who have been both Fridays so far!  It was great to see so many new faces as well – well done to all concerned! Keep up the good work!  I am liaising with St Erconwald’s parish about a new Lenten Challenge for our school families and I will send out more information next week, so watch this space!

Finally you will be aware that the situation with COVID-19 is changing rapidly and we are monitoring the situation closely.  A letter came out earlier today from the Xavier Trust ….. explaining the strategy for all of our schools at the current time.  At Cardinal Newman we are continuing to make additional cleaning and soap refill checks at lunchtimes and supporting the children to wash their hands properly at key points during the day.  At the moment it is otherwise very much business as usual.  We will keep the situation under review and let you know if  we need to make any changes on the advice of Public Health England which we are following very closely.  The website for updates remains:…..

I wish you all a very happy (and hopefully slightly dry and sunny!) weekend!

All best wishes

Catherine Burnham
