Parents Association Notes

Quiz Night

It was wonderful to see so many at Quiz Night last week, thank you for your support and congratulations to the winning team. A huge thank you to Kirsty Finding and Louise O’Dwyer who voluntarily stepped forward to organise this event. We are also extremely grateful to Conor Moloney and Sam Ahern who compered the evening for us and kept everyone amused. All in all excellent teamwork which has raised over £1000 for the school and opportunities for our children.

Hopefully this has given us all an appetite for events that draw the school community together. Looking ahead, we will need some new volunteers to step forward both as Class Reps and members of the committee. Please take a moment to think how you might be able to help. The event schedule for the next academic year has been planned and there are written, step by step instructions for Class Reps how to run each of the events. After three years in post the current Chair and Secretary will be stepping down in July. These positions, (which can be shared) offer an excellent opportunity to support the school community, support your own development whether working or on a career break, to make many new friendships and to give something back. We all have a responsibility to consider how our children have benefited from the generosity of previous families, and what we in turn will be passing on to the next generation of Cardinal Newman pupils.

There is one last hurrah with some family fun planned for July, details will follow in due course. After that we look forward to handing on the baton. Please email PA@cardinalnewmanschool.co.uk for further information or a friendly chat. We know we can count on you.

Wellbeing

We are working with the ‘Effingham Learning Partnership’ to host an event on the 28th March.  The event is free to attend and we have 300 tickets total.

The event is entitled ‘Wellbeing Forum for Parents’ with a focus on ‘Managing Children’s anxiety & promoting online safety’.  We have two amazing speakers for the evening and will start with refreshments at 6:30pm for a 7pm start.  We have 180 tickets still available. You can book here. If we get a lot of interest then we will run the event a second time.

eSafety and Safeguarding

Reminder: Keeping children safe online and in the real world

At Cardinal Newman School we are always reminding the children how they can keep themselves safe whether in the real world or in the virtual world. Class teachers regularly use the Zones of Regulation to assess how the children in their classes are feeling. Children are encouraged to share their worries using the ‘What I want my teacher to know boxes’ which are in each Key Stage 2 classrooms and the Worry Monsters which can be found in the Keys Stage 1 Classrooms.

Information to support parents can be found on the school website here.

Please continue to report any safeguarding concerns to Mr Flower (Designated Safeguarding Lead) or Mrs Burnham (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead).
