Notes/Reminders

Reception 2023 closing date

Reminder that the closing date for Reception and Junior applications for September 2023 entry is 15 January 2023.

For infant schools, this will include reminding parents of children on roll in Year 2 that they must submit an application by 15 January for a junior transfer. For junior new round, they can only apply to juniors or to primaries that have an additional entry at Year 3.

We encourage online applications via https://www.eadmissions.org.uk/eAdmissions/app, however parents can also request a paper application form or seek impartial help in completing an application via the Surrey Schools & Childcare Service (0300 200 1004, Mon-Fri 9am-5pm). Full information is available on Surrey's website at www.surreycc.gov.uk/primaryadmissions.

Applications received after the closing date without good reason will be treated as late and will not be considered until all on time applications have been processed. This may jeopardise the chance of a parent being offered one of their preferred schools for their child.

St Erconwald’s Christmas Decoration

We have two 4ft potted Christmas trees outside St Erconwald’s Church for the children. Please encourage them to make a decoration or bring a bauble (for outdoors) from home to hang on the tree when they come to church over the next 2 weeks. Maybe they would like to paint a pebble to put it under the tree? There will also be a tree inside the church foyer for them as well. The more the kids get involved the better!!! Thank you.

Ukulele club performance

Last Sunday three girls from the ukulele club played with Sara in St. Erconwald‘s for the closing hymn and they were brilliant. They all did really well, made a beautiful sound and the congregation loved it.  Hopefully they will come back and do it again soon.

Little Red Riding Hood

Riverhouse Barn are performing a Little Red Riding hood show. Please click  Riverhouse (thelittleboxoffice.com) to book tickets.

The year 2 children have made mushrooms and toadstools to go on the forest floor of the Christmas Exhibition which is linked to the show and involves a magical ‘red riding hood’ forest.

Mufti's and Christmas jumper day next week

Tuesday 13th December - St Lucy house mufti day. The children in this house may wear their own clothes on that day. The house colour is yellow so if they have something in that colour included in their outfit that would be great, but not essential.

Thursday 15th December - Christmas jumper day, children should wear the uniform as normal with a Christmas jumper rather than their school jumper.

Friday 16th December - Bottle Tombola and mufti for all children. Thank you in advance.

eSafety and Safeguarding

Reminder: Keeping children safe online and in the real world

At Cardinal Newman School we are always reminding the children how they can keep themselves safe whether in the real world or in the virtual world. Class teachers regularly use the Zones of Regulation to assess how the children in their classes are feeling. Children are encouraged to share their worries using the ‘What I want my teacher to know boxes’ which are in each Key Stage 2 classrooms and the Worry Monsters which can be found in the Keys Stage 1 Classrooms.

Information to support parents can be found on the school website here.

Please continue to report any safeguarding concerns to Mr Flower (Designated Safeguarding Lead) or Mrs Burnham (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead).
