Notes/Reminders

Coffee and Conversation

Thank you to all parents who attended the Coffee and Conversation with Mrs Burnham this week and to all those who raised questions.  The notes from the meeting can be found here.

Winter uniform

From Monday, all children are asked to wear smart winter uniform until the end of the Spring Term.  Please support our smart uniform policy by ensuring hair accessories are school colours (red, white or navy blue) and that children are not wearing wristbands/bracelets/pin badges/tattoos/nail polish etc during school time.  School shoes should be smart black shoes (not trainers please!) – if you need any support with the purchase of items to support our uniform policy, please get in touch with Mrs. Burnham and we will do our best to support.

Cardinal Newman Art Exhibition

Thank you to everyone who supported the children's Art Exhibition at the Riverhouse Barn last weekend.  There was a record turn out and the children were very enthusiastic about showing their parents their art work!  Thank you for supporting them!  Thank you also to Mrs Fleming and her team for their hard work in instigating the exhibition and in mounting and demounting the art work itself - well done!

Open Evening

A big thank you to all the children who helped out at the Open Evening on Wednesday.  We received many compliments about our very articulate children and their excellent behaviour!  Well done and thank you to parents who supported by dropping and collecting - often twice in one day!

St. First Holy Communion Program 2023

St Erconwald’s First Holy Communion Program is now ready!!!! Please follow the link First Holy Communion - St Erconwalds and download the application form (any problems, please let St Erconwlad’s office know as they could always give you a hard copy). The application forms should be returned no later than Sunday 6th of November. Any forms received after that date will not be considered. However, without Catechists the program cannot be run and at the moment we do not have enough Catechists. Last year we had a fantastic group of parents that step up to deliver it. The more the better as that means you will not have to lead every week. So please get in touch with the Parish office (01932 22 1101 or 07494 749833) if you are interested in helping. They will be extremely grateful. Thank you

Communicating with your child's teacher

Messages for teachers can be put in your child's reading/homework diary, eg. homework issues, pick up arrangements, lost property, requesting a meeting with the teacher or anything else you would like the teacher to know. For KS2 children, please remind your child to tell the teacher that the message is in there.

Pick-up notes

If possible, please write pick-up notes in your child's reading/homework book or give them a note to pass onto the teacher.

If you do need to let the office know about a last minute pick-up change,  please do so before 2 pm if possible. If you email the office about a pick-up, you will not receive an acknowledgement reply but we will of course pass the message on. This is due to the large  volume of emails we receive in relation to this daily. Thank you for understanding.

Y6 Independant Walkers

If your child is in Y6 and you would like to let us know they will be walking home from school, please just email the office.

How to report your child being absent or sick

Please either ring the school office on 01932 222536 and leave a voicemail or email absence@cardinalnewmanschool.co.uk. If you email us about an absence, you will not receive an acknowledgement reply due to the large volume of emails we receive in relation to this daily.

If your child has a stomach bug, they should not return to school until 48 hours after the last episode of illness.

eSafety and Safeguarding

Reminder: Keeping children safe online and in the real world

At Cardinal Newman School we are always reminding the children how they can keep themselves safe whether in the real world or in the virtual world. Class teachers regularly use the Zones of Regulation to assess how the children in their classes are feeling. Children are encouraged to share their worries using the ‘What I want my teacher to know boxes’ which are in each Key Stage 2 classrooms and the Worry Monsters which can be found in the Keys Stage 1 Classrooms.

Information to support parents can be found on the school website here.

Please continue to report any safeguarding concerns to Mr Flower (Designated Safeguarding Lead) or Mrs Burnham (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead).
