Year 3 -mini Ancient Greek Olympics

As part of our focus on Ancient Greece, in preparation for Sports Day, and in revision of measuring length and capacity in maths, Year 3 took part in a mini Ancient Greek Olympics. In one of 5 city-states, children took part in five sporting events: paper plate discus, straw javelin, cotton ball shot put, shuttle runs and the left-handed sponge squeeze. Children were required to estimate and accurately measure distances and capacity. In the true spirit of the Olympics, and despite the competitiveness of the Spartans, all Olympians participated with courage, sportsmanship and respect. We thoroughly enjoyed this practical experience of the Ancient Olympic Games. For more photos click here.
